Hypnosis For Weight Loss: Does It Work?
Much damaged by popular culture, hypnosis isn’t what you might imagine it to be. Something that many people do not understand about hypnosis is that it is not a form of mind control. 

You will not be put into a deep sleep where the hypnotist can do whatever they want to you, and you will not be forced to do anything that you would not normally do. 

Hypnosis is not some all powerful form of mind control, but rather it is a form of meditation and relaxation that can help you to change or recall things.

People use hypnosis for all kinds of things, from regression therapy to helping them implant new suggestions that can help them to reach personal, professional, or interpersonal goals.  

Hypnosis has been used by entertainers for a long time, but therapists employ the technique as well, and you can use it to help you with goals like weight loss, which can be a big challenge to your willpower otherwise.  

1) Using Hypnosis

The two primary ways that you can employ hypnosis to help you with your personal needs and goals involve professional hypnosis or self hypnosis.  In the case of professional hypnosis, you will need to locate a therapist (a hypno-therapist) who is willing to use the hypnosis techniques to plant suggestions in your mind to help you to achieve your goals.  

Either way you go, you will have to have your suggestions firmly created before hand, whether they are “I really don’t want or need cigarettes” or “the next time I think about turning on the television, I will think about walking instead”. 

However you use your affirmations, make sure that they are firmly created and that they express a means to help you achieve your goals (as opposed to “I will lose weight”, which lacks detail).  

Self-hypnosis involves putting yourself into the trance like state.  Forget about trying to use a watch.  Take a deep breath, get comfortable, clear your mind, and relax. 

Once you feel fully relaxed, try to feel yourself sinking deeper into yourself.  Imagine floating downward or count down.  Once you feel like you are in a fully relaxed and possibly in a trance state, you can try planning these suggestions in your own mind by repeating your affirmations to yourself silently. 

This can take months of practice for some people to achieve correctly, but others get it right on the first try.  

The benefit of doing this at home is that you can repeat the exercise every day, which is not possible with a therapist.  In this way you can be pretty sure that your subconscious will pick up the message that you are trying to give it. 

The benefits can be wide ranging, allowing you to ditch habits that you are done with or to pick up new, healthy habits instead.  

2) Hypnosis for Weight Loss

These days, with obesity statistics on the increase, many people are turning toward hypnosis to lose weight. Don’t think that you can put on headphones and listen to a “hypnosis” tape in your sleep to lose weight. 

It comes down, as everything does, to discipline.  You may not be focusing so much on a diet plan as you will be focused on living your affirmations.  

It is important to choose an affirmation (the command or suggestion that you place in your mind when you are in the hypnotic trace) that you feel like you can handle. 

Choose something like “I will have a desire to take a walk after dinner” rather than “I’m never going to eat dessert again”. 

Which is more realistic?  How about “I will make more conscious choices about dessert” instead?  

Once your affirmation triggers and you do think about that walk after dinner, it is really important to follow through with the urge so that you actually get positive results from your hypnosis

If you are not seeing results after a couple of weeks of daily practice, it may be time to rethink what you are saying to yourself.  

Hypnosis, when properly used, can be an incredible tool for dieting and weight loss, and it can help you to supplement or back up your willpower so that you get good results the next time you are trying to lose weight. 

One thing that you have to keep in mind, though, is that hypnosis is a supplement to your will and not a replacement for it!
