Activating Your Wealth Luck for 2007: Practical Tips To Feng Shui Your Living Room!
Bringing abundance to your home with feng shui
If you’re like me, you spend a lot of time in your living room. You hang out with your spouse, you watch TV, listen to music, you probably even pull out your laptop and work or converse with friends. And since you spend so much time in your living room, where better to apply feng shui to bring more wealth and happiness into your life this coming year?
You don’t need to hire a feng shui expert to create a serene, harmonious atmosphere that will make the most of the flowing chi energy that’s circulating through your home. Here are some ways I’ve found to achieve a feng shui living space with just a little planning and redecoration.
Position is everything
The position of your furniture is very, very important. Your chairs and couches should face the door – you and your family should never sit with your back to the door, and you should always be able to see the door from where you sit. Furniture should be placed in a circular or semi-circular formation if possible, and should facilitate conversation comfortably.
Your television, stereo or other metal objects shouldn’t be the central focus of the living room. This can be difficult to achieve in a modern home, but if you have a fireplace, arrange your furniture so that people sitting in the room can enjoy relaxed, comfortable conversation.
The television or any other metal based objects should not have a central position in your feng shui living room. A fireplace would be an ideal element to have as room center and, in case you have it, you should place the furniture based on where it is placed. It is important that the living room should invite people to have good conversation and should make them feel comfortable and relaxed in it.
Furniture should be round, or at least the corners should be rounded. Buy a circular coffee table, if possible – the circle symbolizes heavenly blessings, and creates a calmer, more healthful atmosphere. Essentially, you want to make sure that chi energy can flow freely through your home, entering through the front door and exiting out the back without being curtailed by sharp angles or clutter, which can slow it down and create health problems. But you don’t want the energy to leave too quickly, before it can do any good – so if you have an unimpeded path between your front and back doors, consider putting up a screen or hanging curtains.
Creating a healthy environment
If your living room has dark corners or other areas that lack light, brighten them up with light colors, plants, lighting or mirrors. In fact, a well-placed mirror can make a great deal of difference, bringing more light to a dark area of the room or reflect something that’s important to you. Mirrors can also make rooms look bigger, and can reflect the door, so that it can be seen from the seating area
The main table in your living room, whether it’s a coffee table, sideboard or end table, should be clean and tidy, and should be welcoming to anyone who enters the room. I like to keep a small vase with fresh flowers on my coffee table, but you might enjoy a plant or terrarium to bring nature into your home.
If you live on a busy street, the cars and people passing by are all generating energy that’s traveling quickly into your home. Balance this chi with plants, trees or shrubs outside, or with a small indoor water fountain in your living room. This will slow down the chi energy to allow it to flow constructively through your home. A garden that you can see from your living room will also be calming and good for positive chi energy.
Creating wealth and abundance in your living room
The area that controls wealth and abundance is situated in the southeast corner of your home. To improve wealth, feng shui experts say that you should add water as an element in that corner. The water should be free-flowing, calm and clean. Avoid paintings of violent storms at sea or stagnant fountains.
One way to bring water to the southeast corner of your living room is to install a fish tank, and stock it with strong, healthy specimens. In fact, feng shui experts suggest fish tanks for their clients, and recommend that you have eight goldfish for abundance and luck, and one black goldfish to absorb the room’s negative energy. If you don’t feel up to maintaining a fish tank, even pictures of water scenes will do the trick. Make sure that the picture is one that represents calm and abundance to you – a crystal lake surrounded by a lush forest, for example.
By stimulating the wealth and abundance area of your home and applying feng shui principles to your living room, you’ll not only be calmer and happier, but wealth will soon come your way!
